Mood Rings were a huge trend in the 1970s and then they went out of the trend but they have resurfaced since then and currently mood jewelry is also in the trend. Mood rings are a object of fascination because the basic working principle of mood rings is to convey the mood in which you are in by depicting different colours for different moods. Many people are sceptical about the mood rings because they think that they do not actually work. If you go into the signs of a tall you would find that there is no proper way of making them work scientifically, but the work due to the changes in your body is involuntary characteristics according to the mood which you are having.
These days there are not just mood rings but also there is other form of mood jewelry as well working on the same principle.
How do mood rings work?
If you notice the mood rings or any other type of mood jewelry then you would realise that at the centre of it all is the stone which consist of the liquid crystals and these change the colour according to the mood in which you are in. In order to change the colour of the crystals, there is a lesser-known property of the crystals which is used and which is that they change the colour according to the temperature which they are subjected to. Inside the stone which is they are in the mood jewelry or the mood rings, there is a strip of such stones so that when they change the colour it is easily visible outside the stone as well. They are encased in a protective coating so as to protect them and increase their life for the longer term.
Whenever the temperature changes which they are subjected to these liquid crystals twist. And depending on the extent of the twisting, the light which is reflected back from the crystals also changes and depending on the wavelength of the light which is reflected back from the crystals the colour of the crystal changes. When the crystals twist, the molecule structure of the crystal also changes and that is why it now starts reflecting a different wavelength of light and depending on the wavelength which it reflects, you would see the respective colour in the crystals. Since they keep on twisting with the rise and the fall of the temperature, this twisting also happens pretty rapidly and therefore the colour also changes pretty rapidly.
Can mood rings really depict your emotions?
As your emotions change so does the temperature of your body and these changes are taking place involuntarily and that means that you are not able to control the changes of temperature in your body and this is the property of your body which is used by the crystals which are present in the mood rings or any other type of mood jewelry. The variation in the temperature of your body away from the normal would always be dependent on the emotions which you are feeling that is the mood which you are having.
The normal body temperature is around 37.5°C. When you are stressed or when you’re anxious there is a rush of cold blood towards the inner organs of your body and therefore the temperature of your body reduces and since the crystals are close to your body in the form of the mood rings the temperature to which they are subjected to also changes and this causes a twisting motion in the crystals which causes a change in the molecule structure of the crystals as explained above and therefore the crystals turn dark probably black in colour.
Similarly, when you’re feeling happy there would be a increase in the temperature of your body which would change the temperature to which the crystals are subjected as well and therefore they would again be changing the colour depending on the temperature of your body.
There are some other cases in which the colour of the mood rings would be changing as well like when you have just worked out or after having a hot bath and therefore you cannot say that these are 100% accurate but in normal conditions they to tell you about the emotional state in which you are in accurately to a certain extent.
What do the various colours in the mood rings mean?
Once you know the depiction of various colours according to the mood of the person who is wearing the mood rings it would be much more easier for you to determine the emotional state of the person according to the colour of the mood ring. Below we would be discussing about the colour of the crystals and what emotional state do they depict in that colour.
Pink: This depicts the romantic side of the person and the happy emotional state of the person.
Blue: This colour represents the calm emotional state of the person and indicates that the person is relaxed.
Green: This is the stable state of the person that is the person is neither have been Awsat and not anxious as well.
Yellow: This is the state of the person in which the person is excited always anticipating something or a slightly tensed.
Brown/Grey: If you’re anxious about something or if you are nervous about trying something out then this would be the colour which would be depicted by the mood ring.
Black: As explained above, black is the colour which would be depicted when you’re very much tensed or when you are sad.
The changes in the colour of the mood ring always start at the centre and then moved towards the edges.
Mood rings might not be entirely accurate but they do make an interesting piece of jewelry which can predict your emotional state with reasonable accuracy and thereby helping people around you understand what emotional state you are in currently.
